Back to Reality…
So it has been a few weeks and I have been working and haven’t had much time for the blog. But I have been playing games that where created or have a sequel being created in New York! I played Guitar Hero on Tour DS, The Bee Movie DS, & Kung Fu Panda DS from Activision. I played Diner Dash DS from the folks a Game Labs. (One of my favorites I might add…) Ok, then I played Puzzle Quest DS from the great people at 1st Playable. I also found out that 1st Playable has been working on Club Penguin DS and it connects to the online flash game through some Dgamer account! So I played some more club penguin! I orginally joined club penguin as part of an MMO class in college but now am super addicted an think everyone should play and be my friend. (My penguin name : IRLniceguy favorite-server: FJORD )…ok enough playing games…
What about making them! Well I have a new mini project I am working on. I am attempting to make a few Nintendo DS homebrews so that I can become fimiliar with the system that seems to getting a lot of attention in my state. My next step…move! To where…idk? Probably closer to Albany and NYC. Possibly, “Troy, NY”; maybe I could start a Masters program at RPI?!? But yeah, I am still in my day by day persuit of getting started in the game industry. If you are actually reading my blog…and think I am awesome… you should probably get all my twitters… Just follow AwesomeMike ! Ok, so as most of you know, I am pretty slick about saving money in my travels…like I did GDC Sanfrancisco for 332$ ! That’s a pass(no-volunteering), a round trip flight (DC-SF) and a weeks stay. Of course I did Austin GDC cheaper! But now AwesomeMike needs to come up with a way to move towards the city for very little, find a job to cover rent, and get a cheap but nice appartment? So naturally that sound like a job for craiglist. I will let you know how it goes ! If you have any ideas on how to save money let me know!
Game Career Seminar!
So, after last night the realization that the Austin crowd is much different than that at the main GDC hit. (Parties not so much)… I just focused on Networking to make potential new friends not just familiar faces because there is a lot more time on your hands at the Austin GDC. The Game Career Seminar this morning has been phenomenal and has provided incredible advise. After all the lectures are over I will post a summary of each and my impressions. I also was able to meet some east coast folks and hand out a few more resumes/cards! Back to all the fun…read the tweets!
Pictures from last night…and Impressions of Austin Expo Floor
- Bridge to Capital Building In Austin Last night
- Morning Shot!
- Info for the San Francisco Event!
So, Austin is incredible! But GDC here is much smaller and is more focused on the Arts. Austin would be a great place for Writers, Audio Guys, Designers and Computer/Graphic Artist. Most of the expo floor here was dedicated to the Universities, Hardware Companies, Publishers, Third-Party Outsourcing and Testing companies. Only a few “Game Dev” Companies where on the floor but I will definately take pictures at Booth Crawl when more people are on the Floor! Still in persuit for Good programming connections!
Good Morning!
So, I got in quite late last night around 9:30ish and Austin seems to close up shop around 9 which was much different than my experience with NYC and San Francisco. I just go my self registered in like seconds! Now, since I can’t go to any keynotes with my pass it’s time to Network on the Expo floor. Lots of different people here than San Fran but it seems to be a little bit smaller of a crowd. Lots of Pictures to come!!!! But first a little bit of pictures from yesterday!!!
- Will and I @ IAD!
- Starbucks is everywhere!!!!! It follows me in all the Game Dev Hot Spots!
- Plane to Austin!!!
